Bali belly, zombie cells, and why I’m extra grateful for home

I am back. And when I say back, I mean BACK. After what felt like 97 connecting flights, 36 hours of travel, and a whole lot of airplane snacks that should never be called food. 🤪
So, Bali. Let’s talk.

You know how sometimes you finally meet someone you’ve looked up to forever, maybe a mentor, celebrity crush, or that one woman who makes green juice look glamorous, and then the reality of them doesn’t quite live up to the fantasy of them? That was me and Bali.

It had been on my bucket list for as long as I can remember. I dreamed of lush jungles, turquoise water, enlightenment, and maybe even a spontaneous halo appearing over my head while I meditated on a mountaintop. What I actually got was a super underdeveloped jungle town called Ubud, a whole lot of uphill steps, and a stomach souvenir called “Bali belly.” Not exactly the tropical love story I pictured.

Don’t get me wrong. The natural beauty is stunning. The waterfalls and rice paddies? Gorgeous. The warm weather? Amazing. But after 48 hours of intestinal rebellion (thankfully it was mild due to my enzymes, probiotics, and bottled water), my biggest enlightenment was simply this:

I really love my life. I really love where I live. And I am profoundly grateful to be home in the United States. 🙏

So no, I don’t regret going. But will I race back after that marathon travel time? Probably not. Sometimes the breakthrough and blessing is just realizing how good we already have it.

❤️ What I’m Doing Now That I’m Home

After Bali belly, my gut and I are officially in couples therapy. Here’s my healing lineup:

  • Daily infrared sauna (sweat it out)

  • Hydrogen breathing (sounds wild, feels amazing… more on that soon)

  • A round of Qualia Senolytic this month. I do this once a month, just two days in a row, to clear out “zombie cells” that cause inflammation, slow recovery, and basically make us feel (and function) older than we need to. Sometimes we don’t get the enlightenment we expected.we just get a clearer picture of how much we already have to be thankful for. For that, I am grateful I went to Bali and for the life I live. 💖
