Ocean views, food pyramids, lighting drama and midlife truths

💌 Notes from Natalie

Hi from Zihuatanejo, Mexico.

Yes, that Zihuatanejo. And yes, I had to double check the spelling myself. 🤓

One of my best friends Allison has a second home here and I fully support the life strategy of having friends with boats and beautiful places and then casually inviting yourself along. Highly recommend. Five stars.

I wish I could fully show you the view as I’m typing this. Ocean. Boats. Sunshine. Zero alarms. My nervous system is doing a slow happy dance.

One of my commitments for this new year is not a goal but a commitment. I am committed to standing in my truth more and not being afraid of how it’s taken, perceived, twisted, misunderstood, or turned into something it’s not.

If I believe something and I can stand behind it, I get to share it.

And yes, that can feel nerve racking on social media because we all know you could post a cute puppy picture and someone would still get offended because it wasn’t a cat.

This week I shared a couple thoughts that long time followers of mine have absolutely heard me talk about before. It still felt a little edgy posting them more publicly. But I stayed committed to not letting fear run the show.

One of those was the revised food pyramid that recently came out.

Regardless of how anyone feels about the current administration, and no we are not turning this into that kind of conversation, this new food pyramid made me really happy.

Why? Because it mirrors what I’ve been teaching for a very long time.

I wrote the book The 7 Day Jump Start all about unprocessed, natural, real foods. Lean proteins. Healthy fats. Fruits and vegetables. Less emphasis on highly processed starchy carbs and more focus on foods that actually resemble something that once grew, walked, or lived in the ground.

Side note because honesty is my brand…in my video I said that book came out eight years ago.

It was actually ten.

Math has never been my forte. 😅

After I posted, Brooks texted me and said it was ten years ago. I argued for a minute. Then realized he was right. I am not changing the post.

If you read that book years ago, you already know why this felt like a full circle moment for me. If you didn’t, it’s still very relevant today.

The other topic I shared this week that got people surprisingly heated was about lighting and circadian rhythm.

I truly believe circadian rhythm plays a massive role in our health. When we rise with the sun and wind down with the sunset, we sleep better, feel calmer, and tend to be less anxious humans.

That means limiting bright overhead LED lights at night. Using amber or red lights in the evening. Wearing blue blocking glasses at night. Reducing screen time once the sun goes down.

I shared this in a very normal Instagram post.

Not a science dissertation.
Not a research paper.
Just something I practice and teach.

(you can find these posts below 👇)

Some people with fancy letters after their names took this as a personal attack on science. Which honestly made me laugh.

Social media is where people share what they believe and what they teach. If it resonates, amazing. If it doesn’t, you are absolutely allowed to scroll on by.

You can check out the comments on that post if you want a little entertainment. 😅

This week I also released a really important podcast episode all about pelvic floor health.

Fun fact. Getting up to pee nine times a night is not normal. 😳 I know. Shocking.

We talked about what pelvic floor issues actually are, how common they are, how to know if something is off, and what you can do about it. You can watch it on YouTube here or listen on Apple here and Spotify here. I highly recommend this one for every midlife woman.

Before I go, a big P.S. for you.

One of my favorite supplements is on a big sale all month long 🥳 Mitopure. Or as I like to call it, my longevity gummy.

This one works on a cellular level to support mitochondria which means better energy and focus without acting like a stimulant. No caffeine roller coaster. No wired feeling. Just better cellular energy where it actually matters.

It’s on a major January sale and you can check it out and save through the link here.

That’s it from Zihuatanejo 😎 I’m going to soak in the view, the sunshine, and the fact that I’m not wearing real pants.

Talk soon.
