The Truth About Abs!

Probably THE most common questions I get revolve around how to get abs / a 6-pack / or a flat belly and how to keep it that way. Soooo, I’m going to REALLY shed some light on this topic for you today.

And, for all you ladies out there that have had a baby or lost a lot of weight, I have something special (very REAL) to show you.  It wasn’t easy, but I think you will appreciate it (must read the whole thing).

First, I want to preface that I am 45 years old, have given birth, and I am NOT a fitness competitor or bodybuilder.I do not “diet down” to get my abs. In fact, I have had them pretty much around the clock the past few years due to creating and living a healthy LIFESTYLE!

Now that the basics are out of the way, I have a video for you with the TRUTH about abs!  I think you are going to love the real-deal ab questions and answers that I have in store for you.  Watch below…

For most people to get abs, it takes CONSISTENCY!  That means a healthy LIFESTYLE…NOT fad diets, short term diets, diet pills, or other quick fixes.   You have to lose body fat, and TONE the underlying muscle.

That is why I recommend people start with the 7 Day Jump start program.  That is the program that successfully worked for me, and over 150,000+ others around the world.  You can learn more about it HERE.  It will help you build a healthy lifestyle, and get you in fat burning mode.

To go along with the nutrition, you have to tone the underlying muscle.  I have made that easy for you by removing the most common excuses of ‘no time’, ‘no gym’, ‘too expensive’, and ‘I don’t have any equipment’.

Check out my award winning DVDS here which are 10-15 minute body weight workouts that need NO equipment that can all be done at home.  As you get stronger you can combine the workouts and build 20, 30, even 40 minute workouts!  If you are a beginner, you can modify the exercises to suit you.  Whether you are a busy mom, or an athlete, it is the perfect way to get 10 minutes of quality strength training in each day.

This isn’t easy, but I think it will help a LOT of women out there.  We all try so hard to ‘look good’ and all of that, which is totally understandable.  BUT, if you have had a baby or lost a lot of weight, you will have loose skin.

I have seen a LOT of comments from women lately really stressing this extra skin after giving birth.  This is something I have NEVER shared before, and it never occurred for me to share it, until my cousin was complaining about her loose skin after having a baby and she said something about me “not having that problem”.

Once I showed her my stomach in this way, it made her feel soooo much better to realize that ‘even the girl with abs’, is dealing with the same thing.

I tell people all the time, you can’t make it ‘go away’ (without surgery), but you can drastically improve the appearance by losing body fat, and toning thehowtogetabsunderlying muscle.

For the record: downward dog will NEVER be flattering for me, or anybody else that has had a baby (unless they were in their teens or early twenties when they did so…and even then, no guarantees).

I know some people will say “I don’t see your face…that isn’t you”.  If you watch the video above, you WILL see that it is 100% me!  This screenshot is just to show that on top of my abs, I have some ‘not so pretty’ skin.

So stop beating yourself up!  I have had a TON of women send me pictures of their stomachs and loose skin.  The one thing I will say is yes, there is some loose skin, BUT from the pics I have seen, still a lot of body fat that can be lost…which will drastically improve the appearance.

Remember, consistency with a healthy LIFESTYLE is key!  YOU GOT THIS!

Excuses or Solutions… YOU Decide!

Everybody starts from a different place. The key is consistency. I ate like the jump start and kept progressing my workouts. Remember, it isn’t a race…it is a LIFESTYLE!

What is the best food to eat first in the morning before exercise? Is a shake enough?

The right shake can be. Fast digesting protein and carbs is best pre workout. Nothing too heavy.

I feel as though I’ve become over sensitive to a small roll of skin/ tissue under my belly button that is visible when I bend over toward the floor. It is right where my pants hit, so I can feel it. I am a runner, I lift light weights, and I do ab workouts 5-7 days/ week. I am not overweight( 5’7″, 118-120lbs). I am a mother and am 37 yrs old. I appreciate your post on extra skin over the abs. Standing upright, my abs are visible. The older I get, the more I feel my skin beginning to sag, despite how hard I hit the gym. I am searching for ways to alleviate this annoying thought of feeling ” fat” because of this isolated area. Your post is one the only ones I’ve read that seems to aknowledge it may not be an excess fat issue. When I search ways to help lower body ab- tightening, I find myself stressing about calories and dip below 1200 just to try to see results, as I convince myself I just must not be doing enough to get rid of the roll/ sag. I would appreciate any tips!
