Engines or Anchors

Engines or Anchors

What do you see?

natalie jill surfshotWhat do you see first when you look at this image?

Do you see the beach?
The pier?
The ocean?
The model?
The surf board?
Do you notice the photographer taking the image?
What sort of feelings does this image create?

Does it make you relaxed, happy, or motivated? Or does it make you angry, annoyed, critical that YOU can’t be relaxed, happy, motivated, thin…or whatever..?

Do you feel inclined to say “great shot” or to write something mean and hurtful?  If the latter, why?

It is JUST an image.

A funny thing happens with social media and other online avenues. Pictures get posted, statuses and descriptions get written, and EVERYONE views the image, statement, hashtags differently.

Some people get inspired, while others feel the need to blast away with mean spirited words they would NEVER say to someones face, yet they feel fine hiding behind their computer screen typing away.

I don’t read the comment threads much anymore like I used to when my images are posted online. Why? Because for all the positive comments made, there are always a few negative ones by people just trying to bring you down.   I don’t like bringing negativity into my life, so I minimize the time spent dealing with such things.

Engines or Anchors?

The image with the negativity

The image with the negativity

The comments were so mean and hateful, things like: “photo shop!” “man abs!” “yuck!” and  “Ewe!” “Who would want to look like that?”

I didn’t get upset.  It just reminded me WHY I don’t read comments from people that don’t know me. I don’t let others mean thoughts define me.  I choose to seek out and associate with ‘engines’, NOT the ‘anchors’ of this world.

There are more than enough people who want to climb to great heights and support others along the way.  These people are in stark contrast to the anchors, that only want to drag others down.

Be Positive, Be Happy, Be Supportive

Let’s go back to the beach image at the top of the page.  Not sure what you noticed or how it made YOU feel, but this is a behind the scenes shot from the second magazine cover I was ever offered!

As you can imagine, I was pretty darn happy!  At age 40, I was feeling proud and self conscious at the same time. Harry was the photographer in the picture and my boyfriend captured the behind the scenes shot with my iphone.

In the end, it is up to YOU whether you decide to be an ENGINE to those around you, or an ANCHOR.  Just realize that that whatever you choose to be, you will attract more of the same.  Onward and upward…

Excuses or Solutions…YOU Decide!!
