42 – BRING IT!

42 BRING IT!

Yes, I turned 42 last month.  So many people “hide” their age, but I pretty much blasted it from the roof tops. Why? Because to me, I feel GREAT for 42. I am not ashamed of my age and I don’t feel the need to try and be 20 again.  I am a proud “forty-something” and I love progressing towards the best me possible!

Why? Because I believe in aging backwards

Aging backwards means “improving” and getting BETTER, SMARTER, STRONGER as the years go by. You have more experience, more resources, more trial and error, more practice, more knowledge so WHY THE HECK NOT?  Why listen to those people that put “aging” into a negative light?

Here is what I know for sure about how to stay younger looking and feeling and about aging backwards:

Aging Backwards with Natalie Jill – Eat real food. Stay as CLOSE to natural as possible. Processed food and junk will AGE you and put unnecessary strain on your body. Our bodies were NOT designed to process chemicals, artificial junk and high doses of sugar! Keep it real. Tax your body less.

– Eat (or drink) your veggies. Vegetables have so many amazing nutrients to help keep you feeling and looking young.  Nobody EVER “got fat” eating too many veggies. That would be next to impossible to do, so EAT AWAY!  To help motivate you, make it a challenge to see how many vegetables you can get in your system each day.

– Stay active!  Just MOVE! Park further, walk more, play with your kids, walk instead of drive, bike to run errands, take the long cut, and keep moving!

– Challenge yourself always. Progression with your body as well as your mind is key. You can ALWAYS improve from where you are no matter what your age. Practice, be determined, and move forward!

– Try new things and never stop with your goals. Age is not a reason to not go for your goals. I have a friend in her mid 40’s finishing college now, I myself did a full on career switch just a few years ago. KEEP upping the goals and going for it!

– Keep negativity out of your life. If someone causes stress or brings you down there is no reason to engage with them.

– Surround yourself with the positive people and make sure you have a circle of friends who share your same core goals and beliefs. I have an amazing group of girl friends. Looking around at them at Happy Birthday Natalie Jill my birthday dinner the other night I was in AWE. ALL in their 40’s ALL looking FABULOUS. Talking, laughing, sharing our plans, goals, NO MENTION of negativity towards aging or that slowing us down.

– Train functional. When we are younger a lot of times we skip the warm ups, we skip the cool downs, we lift with the wrong form, we run when we are tired, we are HARD on our bodies. It is more important than ever as we age to make sure that we train CORRECTLY. Correct form, being functional, having a strong core all plays a solid role in our health and aging pain free.

– Lastly – BELIEVE it is possible to be your best you. If you “believe” you are deteriorating then you likely will be – if instead you believe you can still be your best you and progress you will. An example of this is my recent battle with back pain and making a “choice” not to accept age as the problem but rather find a solution.  You can read more about my experience here.
